Nice bit of music

Vondur has put up a column written by Shambler (another Quake peep) about various types of dark ambient style music. There are also some reviews thrown in there for good measure. I tend to listen to all sorts of music but I do like a bit of drum and bass every so often. I tend to ask Shambler what’s good since his really knows his stuff. The majority of music I’ve bought off the back off his recommendations has been really good, and I’ve used Juno in the past to buy from. They have a huge selection of music to chose from. In fact, it might be time to go pester him again for suggestions…

Worst Tagline Ever

Expedia, the online holiday peeps, have got a series of new ads running on TV with the wonderful tagline of “Let Yourself Go. Now the first thing my warped mind conjures up is probably not what the marketing gurus had in mind. Its actually the use of this…

Champion One Piece Toilet

(Thats a Champion® Elongated One-Piece Toilet in White Heat 208 for reference. Nice!)

Letyourselfgo-1 Fatcat Letyourselfgo-2

What were they thinking?! Is it just me that sees it like this?

Rather worryingly whilst searching for pictures for this post, I found lots and lots of pictures of people sat on the bog (mostly work safe). It seems the “Ha ha surprise, I’ve a got a camera and you’re on the toilet! picture is very popular. Although I did find this which is pretty cool.

Trying out Blogjet

I’m current trying out Blogjet as way of updating my site. I found a link to it on HanselMinutes last weekend. I’m not much of a podcast person. Listening to something requires more concentration than just scanning a few RSS feeds. But I like Scott’s approach of as little bull as possible. How this guy finds time to look at all this stuff I don’t know.

As much as I like WordPress’s WYSIWYG editor, it is a bit of a pain to work with. One of the first things I tried doing was adding a link. So I marked the text I wanted to link, clicked the link icon and…

tinyMCE object reference not found from popup.

Ah yes, thats a useful error message! I’m sure if I Googled for it, an obvious answer would be forthcoming, but its the general clunkiness of it that puts me off. When I click “Save and Continue‿ it reloads the page, the WYSIWYG editor disappears, I see the raw HTML and then it comes back and I can carry on. Its great to have the ability to do all this in a web browser, but we’re not there just yet. Its just not responsive enough.

Blogjet however suffers no such problems. Simple and to the point. Pretty much all the options have shortcut keys so after a bit of use firing off a post should be quick. It has spell checking, which is always useful. It would be nice if it ran like Word / Outlook etc with checking as I type… but you can’t have everything!

The look and feel of it reminds me of CityDesk. We use it at work to update and manage the majority of our site content. Yep, I do like apps that just do their job, without any fuss.

Btw Gom, update your site!

Good evening!

Eventually, finally, at last I’ve decided to start a blog. For better or worse here it is! My, how things have changed since I last had a website. If I wanted something that even half resembled the features that WordPress has, it would take me weeks to write.

I have to say I’m impressed. The tools available for creating these types of site are pretty damn good. No one has got an excuse really to not set one up… of course whether they have anything interesting to say is another matter? Will I? We’ll have to see! I’ve got some ideas for the kind of crap things I’d like to write and it will probably be a balance of chaff that interests me and some technical programming related guff.

After a recent college project I’m interested in doing something in PHP. Perhaps getting the MPQ Archive done, but we’ll see, it all depends on how much spare time I have (which is very little at the moment) and whether I’m motivated enough to do it.

With that said, hello, good evening and good night!
